Cambridge News report:

More than 1,100 staff are employed by a council on zero hours contracts which give them no guarantee of work.

Labour said it was “very worrying” that a freedom of information request had revealed 1,138 people at Cambridgeshire County Council were on the contracts, which offer little financial stability or security.

The council defended the contracts, saying they allowed relief staff to be brought in without extra cost to taxpayers.
