BEDFORDSHIRE Police has defended spending more than £1 million on consultants, arguing that they are helping it deal with funding cuts.

A Freedom of Information request submitted by a member of the public has revealed that since January last year, the force spent £1.13m on employing consultancy firms to work on various projects.
