Complaints about “nuisance” noise from Airbnb properties have increased more than seven-fold over the past year in one area of London, official data reveals.

Islington’s noise disturbance unit has received 45 calls to September this year about noise at properties rented out on the short-term letting website — up from six calls last year.

The dramatic increase is likely to be largely accounted for by a surge in the number of homes available for rent on Airbnb in the “party areas” of Clerkenwell, Old Street and Angel.
