In one case involving a girl of just five, social workers intervened when concerns were raised about the amount of time she was on a computer.

Council staff were also worried the child’s parents were themselves spending endless hours in front of screens.

Details of the tech-addict family were uncovered in a survey of councils looking at unusual reasons why children were taken into care.
