A charity has hit out after innocent children were caged in police cells due to an ‘unacceptable’ lack of mental health hospital beds.

Ten vulnerable youngsters in Cumbria have been locked up like criminals in custody in the last three years as there was no suitable accommodation for them.

A Freedom of Information request was made into how the county has coped with having no mental health beds for ‘Tier Four’ youngsters – children suffering from the severest mental health problems.
