An NHS boss billed the taxpayer for a £5,700 safari she had to cancel, the Daily Mail reveals today.

The payment, which was kept secret, was picked up by her cash-strapped hospital.

Sally Irvine insisted she was entitled to the cash because a major cancer care scandal meant she could not take time off.
