The NHS watchdog has bust its hotel budget putting up thousands of inspectors in plush accommodation costing up to £240 a night, an investigation has found.

The Care Quality Commission has spent four times what was planned on hotels and travel in the last financial year, racking up a total bill of £4.4m in 2014/15, new figures show.
