Dr Denys Tucker said he was sacked by London’s Natural History Museum (NHM) after spotting Nessie.

He fought a seven-year legal battle to be reinstated, claiming he was wrongfully dismissed in 1960.

A file kept secret for more than 50 years and now made public under Freedom of Information laws, reveals Whitehall officials were deeply concerned by Dr Tucker’s High Court claim.
