Two of the Vale of Glamorgan’s six council-controlled secondary schools were heavily over-subscribed during this year’s applications process, we can reveal.

Figures released using the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act show both St Cyres Comprehensive School, in Penarth , and Cowbridge Comprehensive School did not have the capacity to meet the demand for places when applications were first submitted.

A total of 302 pupils applied to start at Cowbridge this September, but there were only 240 places available.
