The Bureau of Investigative Journalism report:

To gauge the cost of the UK’s housing crisis on the public purse, the Bureau approached councils that cover the UK’s 12 biggest cities including all 33 London boroughs and requested information on how much they had spent on temporary accommodation in the past four years.

We also asked how much they have spent securing accommodation in bed and breakfast properties.

Some disclosed these costs, while for others we had to submit Freedom of Information (FoI) requests to obtain the data.
