Half of the UK’s registered sex offenders are convicted paedophiles a Freedom of Information request has revealed. 

In obtaining the figures the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children have called for  a ‘tab’ to be kept on those who sexually abuse children.

The Evening Standard report: 

The NSPCC obtained figures under the Freedom of Information Act which showed there are 29,837 registered sex offenders who have committed crimes against children, out of a total of 61,397.

Among those convicted of sex crimes against children, 941 have re-offended since they were made subject to registration requirements.

The charity obtained the information from the National Police Improvement Agency.
